Our awards program has an online form with response character limitations for entrants. We strongly encourage our entrants to type up their responses in Word and check character counts before entering the OpenWater awards platform to copy and paste their responses.
Unfortunately, the OpenWater platform is not counting characters the same way that Word does and our entrants have been frustrated to find their responses crafted in Word do not fit into the character count required by OpenWater.
Can you get this fixed? The OpenWater character counts need to match the Word character counts.
Thanks,
Cathy Vera-Burgos
We discovered this last year, Oct 2021. I'll add that when super- or sub-script, italics, bold formatting are used the word count in OW increases. It didn't seem to matter whether the formatting had been via a copy/paste from Word or if the formatting was added using the OW formatting bar. The help desk said they would put a ticket in for this and get back to me but I have not hear back yet.
Thanks,
Christine Pratt
Christine - Thank you for your insight. OpenWater really needs to get this fixed. When an entrant has worked out their content and they're copying and pasting into the system, it's very frustrating to get last-minute surprises that require rewrites due to a system error.
